Is it necessary to have a ground wire?
Is the ground wire necessary? The appliance will operate normally without the ground wire because it is not a part of the conducting path which supplies electricity to the appliance. If the case is grounded, a high current should flow in the appliance ground wire and trip the breaker.

In respect to this, what if I don’t have a ground wire?
If the box is not grounded, you have two choices:
- Run a ground to the box. This would mean running a new wire back to the panel (could be bare copper, but if you’re doing the work may be better just to run a new wire – 14/3 would be the best), which could mean opening up drywall.
- Wire the fan without ground.
Additionally, what is the point of a ground wire? The purpose of the ground wire (in U.S. terminology) is to provide a path back to the source of the electrical current — the main electrical panel — in the event of a fault. Hopefully this current is enough to trip the breaker or blow the fuse.
Keeping this in consideration, is it OK not to connect ground wire?
Not having that may kill people. If your electric appliance has ground wire it is because there is at least a remote possibility of you get an electric shock in case of electric appliance fail. Engineers won’t add that ground wire unless it is necessary.
Is a bare ground wire dangerous?
It is not dangerous to touch a properly configured “ground” wire. You could just use the color of the insulation on it, Green, to tell you it is a ground wire. A bare wire will give you the same signal.
